Mrs. Dacyl Galicia-Silveira

Transitional-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Teacher

I was born and raised in Mexico.  I am the second of four children.  My father is Mexican and my mother is Panamanian, so I grew up in a bi-cultural home.  When I was seventeen my family immigrated to the U.S. due to my father's line of work; thus living in Miami, FL, for one year before going to college. After finishing my last year of High School I went to Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Best College in the world!  I loved my time there, made many friends and finished a bachelor degree in Elementary Education.  While at Union, I became an SM (Student Missionary) for one year.  I lived in Poland and loved their language, culture and of course food.  I had the privilege of visiting a great number of Western European Countries while living in Poland and it reaffirmed my love for other cultures, languages and cuisines.  Anybody that knows me well knows that traveling is a passion of mine.  Several years later, while already working, I finished a Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in Outdoor Education from Southern Adventist University.  At the moment I am pursuing a second Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. I never thought it possible to say, "I love Las Vegas."  However, today I can honestly say that I do.  I love my job, the friendships I have developed here and the people who touch my life daily.  I am proud to call Las Vegas my home.

I believe a teacher must possess a positive disposition.  My words are meant to encourage students to do their best and spark a laugh when appropriate.  I believe in a strong academic program, and in my

classroom I endeavor to assure student enjoyment and excitement while learning.  My goal is to lead

students to academic mastery as well as to help them develop life skills such as self-confidence,

self-control, patience, responsibility, honesty and perseverance.  I endeavor to reflect Christ and will always endeavor to lead students into a closer relationship with Him.  I have enjoyed working in the past as a

Warriors Camp Counselor, and faculty member at Hawaiian Mission Academy Ka Lama Iki.  I am grateful to God for allowing me to work in the Las Vegas Junior Academy and hope to always follow His guidance as a team player and inspire all of those around me to greatness.  I pray to this end.

Ms. Stephanie Woodson

Teacher Grades 9 and 10

I am excited to be at Las Vegas Junior Academy. I have many roles as I teach Language Arts, Computer Tech, and Choir to grades 6-10. Even though I am still at the beginning of my teaching career, I have had experience in various areas of education and have worked with a variety of students ranging in age and ability. I graduated from La Sierra University with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and obtained my Single-subject CA credential and North American Division certification. Prior to that, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Theology with minors in both Psychology and Sociology from Oakwood University. I have a great passion for young people with special and unique

abilities. My desire to be a positive role model and make a difference in lives of others, is strong. I believe God has prepared me for making an immediate contribution to this institution. I am thankful to be here and I know that I am here for a reason and a purpose.

Mrs. Gladys La Porte
